Cinema Review: KayfuNk - "The Movie"
By CEVO|Waldt
Introduction:
KayfuNk is a movie based on Kris "kayfuNk" Groves with footage from the CPL winter '05, Lethal Gamers, x3o LAN, scrims & matches. The movie was created over a roughly two month period by Numlocked Productions.
Intro: (8 / 10)
This movie starts off with terrorist running throughout a multitude of de_maps and leads into an ace on de_cbble against Catch Gamer. We then see a USP/AK ace on de_inferno which eventually leads into a four kill awp round against Turmoil on de_cbble. I personally really enjoyed the music choice for the intro and thought it blended well with the frags and effects.
Frags: (9 / 10)
Some people have been criticizing the frags in this movie, saying such things as the "kids blatant", and so on. Regardless, this is a movie review and not anti-cheat review so just sit back and enjoy. The frags in this movie are awesome, a lot better than a lot of movies by non-pro players that are released. KayfuNk shows his top notch awp skills throughout the movie along with some nice colt and ak sprays, including an ace against 4dN on de_train and four kill round against coL/4K on de_dust2. The frags in this movie are one great set after another and there are no lame clips in between.
Music/Audio: (7 / 10)
I really enjoyed the audio in this movie, despite one or two of the songs being used in previous movies I thought it went well with each frag scene. Numlocked also used ingame sound in this movie, which is great because it gives the person watching more insight into each frag scene. Numlocked synchronized many of the frags in the middle part of the movie with Powerman 5000 - Danger is Go. I also loved the song In Flames . Trigger, which although a commonly used band, was a first for gaming movies. 30 seconds to mars . Oblivion was the song used in the intro which was my favorite song out the others used in the movie for the simple fact that I just thought it went perfectly with intro sequence.
Effects: (7 / 10)
The effects in this movie went really well with each frag scene and were not overused, unlike in some other movies where you can't even tell if the player was using an awp or deagle. While there weren't any top of the line new effects, the ones that were used did blend in well and that's really what counts. He did use the o so popular wallhack effect but only twice and it went well with the particular scenes. In summary, the effects in this movie weren't really anything new but the ones that were used went well with frags and the audio.
Conclusion: (8.5 / 10)
Overall this movie was put together nicely with the audio and visual parts complementing each other very well. Frags in this movie as I said above were top notch and blended well from one scene to another. This movie will not go on a short list of the greatest movies of all time, but it provides a highly entertaining 10 minutes and is another great film by Numlocked Productions.
